Herbal Bioactive Analysis and Applied Product Innovation Program"
(Principal Investigator)

MFU Launches International Training on Herbal Bioactive Analysis and Applied Product Innovation
The Medicinal Plants Innovation Center (MPIC) at Mae Fah Luang University launched a 7-day international intensive training program titled ‘Herbal Bioactive Analysis and Applied Product Innovation Program.’ Running from July 20–26, 2026 at the Pre-Clinic Building (M3), the program delivered a rigorous laboratory framework for systematically evaluating the bioactivity of herbal compounds, from molecular mechanisms through to applied product development. Associate Professor Dr. Rawiwan Charoensup, Head of MPIC, leads the project as the Principal Investigator.
The program integrates chemical composition analysis by HPLC and systems-level approaches, including proteomics, antiviral screening, and metabolomics with network pharmacology. It also covers antibacterial screening (agar diffusion, MIC, and MBC), and MTT-based cytotoxicity assessment, all adhering to international standards such as CLSI/EUCAST, THP, WHO, and USP guidelines.
The opening ceremony was held on July 20, 2026 at the Purahong Meeting Room, M-Square Building (E-Park Zone, 5th Floor). Professor Dr. Sujitra Wongkasemjit, MFU Vice President, delivered the official opening address while Associate Professor Dr. Rawiwan Charoensup welcomed 16 international participants from 5 countries, including the Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Pakistan, and China.
Throughout the week, participants work in four distinct groups, with each team assigned a specific target medicinal plant for hands-on laboratory sessions. These sessions cover chemical profiling via HPLC and HP-TLC, antiviral and antidiabetic bioactivity screening, antibacterial testing, and cytotoxicity evaluation to determine cell viability and IC50 values, culminating in a final group project presentation that links raw lab data to commercial product concepts.
This international initiative expects to position the university as a premier regional hub for herbal research and product innovation. The project serves as a clear example of carrying out MFU’s mission to transform academic knowledge into practical solutions for society.
